Simple Heel Pain

Simple heel pain can be both painful and debilitating. It results as a consequence of bearing weight on the heel, which for most people would not be a problem. For those others, who experience heel pain, the cause may be attributed to one of two factors.

A common cause is over-use or repetitive stress on the heel, usually as a result of unequal impact on the heel in relation to the rest of the foot. This can be caused by shoes which have low heels or a thinned out heel pad on the inside of the shoe. It can also be caused by an increase in activity or not properly warming up before exercise.

The second cause of simple heel pain has a more clinical basis. So called Plantar fasciitis, or heel spur is associated with a biomechanical problem of the foot, over-pronation, or flat foot being the prime example. Running along the underside of the foot, the plantar fascia is the tissue which becomes inflamed causing the condition.

Simple heel pain can be very painful and extremely distressing. Normally worse in the mornings and after any extended period of inactivity, the pain lessens over time when the tight muscles loosen off and stretch through normal daily activities.

Since the pain inhibits movement and inactivity compounds the condition, it is an ailment which often requires the services of a professional chiropodist to ease the suffering.
Glossop Chiropody, heel pain

Simple heel pain caused by shoes with poorly cushioned support can ease over time given the correct footwear. Treatment for heel pain incorporates a range of devices such as heel cups, heel cradles, and specifically designed orthotics. Heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis is further corrected by an arch support orthotic, which when placed in the footwear supports the arch of the foot and prevents inflammation of the plantar fascia.
